Is adventure calling your name?
Well, Kenya is one of the top destinations in the world to visit throughout the year. With its lush vegetation, lovely beaches and a wide variety of wildlife to explore, a Kenya safari may just be the right thing for you!
In this article, we look at five destinations you can put in your travel itinerary while looking at Kenya holiday packages.
Let’s dive in!
Masai Mara
The Masai Mara is a national reserve found in the southern part of Kenya. The park was established in 1961 by the Kenyan government to preserve the ecosystem and its inhabitants, which includes many animals like the big five. To make it more unique, Masai Mara is home to the famed Wildebeest migration, which is one of the wonders of the natural world. Here, wildebeests cross through the Mara river from the Serengeti in Tanzania, to get to Masai Mara for food.
Other than the migration, Masai Mara is also home to many animals and has a beautiful landscape that you can explore.
Tsavo East and West
Another unique wildlife ecosystem you can explore are the Tsavos located near Voi in the costa side of Kenya. We call them the Tsavos because they are two different national parks but within the same ecosystem. Tsavo East national park is considered as the flatter of the two, and has rolling fields of grassland Savannah, while Tsavo West is the more mountainous of the two, having a lot of water like Mzima springs and Lake Jipe.
While they are different and considered as a national park on their own, both parks are home to the big five, and are a fantastic place to find elephants and birdlife, which roam in the expansive ecosystem, and between both parks.
Kenyan Coast
Third on our list is the Kenyan coast.
The Kenyan coast is one of the best preserved coastlines in the world. It is considered is a hub for tourists from all over the world. Here, you have a variety of activities to do, and many unique towns to explore.
You could head out to Lamu, a small island whose sunsets are surreal and has a yearly donkey race, or you can head out to Kilifi, a small town with a great party and nomad-worker life. There’s also Diani, a white-beach whose reputation for having the best beach experiences is known in Kenya, Watamu, Malindi, or the famed Mombasa town, a hub of a beautiful mix of Swahili and Arabic cultures and architecture.
Whatever you fancy, the Kenyan coast got you covered.
Lake Nakuru
If you are looking to explore other parts of Kenya like the Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is the best place to include in your Kenya tour packages.
Lake Nakuru is part of a series of seven lakes that were naturally formed when the Rift Valley was forming. It is well known as the home of flamingos, with a multitude of flamingoes going to feed on algae that grows on the freshwater lake.
Other than being home to flamingoes, Lake Nakuru is found in the Lake Nakuru National park which is also home to other animals like buffalos, lions, leopards, giraffes and hyenas. It is also home to a large variety of birds, making it a great trip for birdwatchers.
While in Lake Nakuru, you can also decide to extend your trip and go to Lake Baringo and Bogoria, which are both Rift Valley lakes and are close to Lake Nakuru.
Nairobi City
Nairobi City is the last place we recommend on our places to visit in Kenya list.
Regardless of Nairobi being a city, and most probably your point of entry into Kenya, it is also full of fun activities to do.
Nairobi is the only national city in the world with a fully functional national park. The Nairobi National Park, which is home to many animals. Animals you can find at this park include lions, ,cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, black rhinos, baboons, giraffes, waterbuck and more.
Other than the national park, Nairobi has museums like Karen Blixen, Nairobi Gallery, and the National Museum of Kenya, where you can learn about the history of Kenya, and even see fossils of early humans. If you are into restaurants and nightlife, Nairobi is famed for the large variety of restaurants it has from Kenyan cuisine to cuisine from different places in the world.
